Housekeeping

So I come here to admit that I am a serious hit and miss house keeper. Just ask my husband. I know it drives him crazy during my "miss" times. Seriously though I so struggle with house work. The vacuuming, the dusting, the dishes, the laundry, the making of beds and keeping things picked up off the floor. Most of the time I am in between the hit and the miss...but probably more towards the miss end of things. It's just so hard for me because once I do something someone (including myself) comes behind me and undoes all that I've done and I have to start all over again. I feel trapped by it a lot of the time and overwhelmed by it at others. I admire those people who seem to have it all together and their houses always look great.

Anyhoo...does anyone have good tips to keeping on top of the mound of house work? I keep thinking about making up a daily "to do" list. I also know that if I am not able to get all of those things on the "to do" list done I will flog myself and feel like a failure so I have been hesitant to make one up. Do you have a daily list? If do would you care to share?

Right now I am sitting in the pit that is my office/craft room and I know I need to do something with it but it's so overwhelming. I have wait for a time when I feel up to the challenge. It will come soon, I hope.

I have no tips. LOL Recently I got on a clean it up kick, but I honestly just depemd on my mood to make it happen. I will go weeks without feeling that way at all.

Honestly? I decided in the last few months that I am just not going to worry about it. Living in a cluttered house won't kill anyone in my family (but no one here cares about clutter other than me, either) so I have let go of a lot of the pressure to have everything neat and orderly.

BUT - I still FEEL better in my head when things are neat and orderly..... :/

the stuff I teach and show people are more about getting it all organized in a 'everything in it's place and a place for everything' type approach. Takes a while but when I have caught up it's easy to catch up when things do get piled up. I hate how that sounds so 'better than' b/c I do not intend that at all, it's just I have been doing it this way soo long that its just what works for me. Everyone thinks my house is so clean all the time, but the truth is? I don't clean everyday, I seriously don't. Kitchen is the one thing but everyone has thier dinner chore and we clean the house about once a week. But as I teach in my classes, it's just about an illusion of being clean LOL

I do know a lot of people who love and have list everyday. They usually get a list like that from flylady.com I haven't been to her site for a while, but I think she has an email she sends out each day of things to do.

but it's the Y in STACEY that I teach that it is what works for you.

I love how NChick is just so laid back. I want to be more like her:)

but what I was going to say too, is that I always encourage people to pick a place that they can keep all to themselves... even if its an underware drawer. B/c it does get so frustrating to work hard at cleaning up something to have the kiddos come in and trash it 5 min. later. So pick a place that you can get organized and that might stay that way and start there. or keep there :)

Good luck getting in the mood. When it does hit, you'll do amazing things :O)

I have my outlook set up with tasks that pop up each day for me.

If it's a crazy day and I can't get to cleaning the house- I delete the task and don't worry about it... it will pop up again in a week or two and I'll get it clean again.

Occasionally when the house has really been neglected (I've been deleting too many of the tasks without doing them) we'll have a big clean up around the house to get me back on track.

Right now I've been deleting the "mop the floor" a few too many times and I HAVE TO get it mopped today because it's really really dirty looking. lol!

Thanks for all the comments and ideas. I guess I just need to try a few different things and see what works for me. *sigh* I was hoping there would be some magic housework fairy that would come and do it all for me.
