Some of you may be aware that there was a leak onto the internet of Stephanie Meyers book in progress Midnight Sun. I feel bad for her that this happened. I can't imagine putting that much time and effort into something just to have it stolen and put forth to the world. Especially since it wasn't finished. So she's put the book on hold. Which makes me sad because I was really looking forward to Edwards side of the story.
She explains things here on her official website, StephanieMeyer.com. If you go to the header that says August 28th(partII) she gives an explanation and she also gives a link for you to read the part of Midnight Sun that she's already written. Which I think is cool of her to do. So if you want to read what's been written so far in Midnight Sun go to the official website. Don't find it somewhere else. And I would imagine that she would like some words of support about the whole situation as well.
Oh and I guess she's (Stephanie Meyers) going to be on the Ellen show today if you want to check it out.
By the way. The way I found out about this all? My 13 year old son came home from school the other day and told M. that Midnight Sun wasn't going to be published. Not a happy day. But I guess there was enough uproar about it at his school that even he caught on to it. And that's got to be quite the uproar.
Side Note: The word scandal is sounding and looking wrong for some reason. Does that ever happen to you? You write a word say it in your head and see it written a couple of times but it just doesn't sound or look right? Scandal, SCAN-dal, scan-DAL, Scandal. *Shaking head and moving away from the computer*

Banning the Twilight Series?
My eleven year old daughter just came home from school and informed me that they are no longer "allowing" the books of Twilight series. I couldn't believe my ears. What could they be thinking? I'm sure they are aware that banning books is not a very progressive or open minded way of thought. I just emailed the principal to see if I can find out what is going on. I couldn't trust myself with a phone call. I didn't want to get angry or irrational. But come on.
I know that my daughter's teacher has expressed his view that he doesn't think that she is old enough to be reading the series. I read through them first. She is my daughter and I know her better than a teacher who has had her in his class for a little over a month. I felt that these books were ones that she would enjoy. And she has. She loves them. They have her reading.
That said, I still haven't decided if she will be reading the last book in the series, Breaking Dawn. That has some stuff in it that I'm not sure about. Maybe we can read it together. As with the others it can open up a dialogue and give me a chance to talk to her about what she is reading. So not only do these book have my daughter reading but they have helped me be able to have good conversations with my daughter. They must be bad.
This is all very reminiscent of the whole "Harry Potter is evil and teaching my kid black magic." train of thought that was out there (and possibly still is). The whole situation makes me very uncomfortable. I don't feel that they have that right to say to my child "You can't bring that book."
One of the reasons it makes me feel uncomfortable is that I feel that they are judging me as a parent. "How DARE you let your child read that book? What an awful parent you must be!" Not really caring for feeling like that. Not that it should really matter what other parents think of me, especially if they don't know me. What's weird is that M. took the books to school the last part of school last year and nothing was ever made mention of it.
I do want some other opinions about this so I'll put it out there for you. Do you think that 10-11 years old is too young to read the book? Should the school ban these books? Are they too "old"for elementary school aged kids?
