A Month of Thanksgiving

I had a friend on Facebook who said that one of her friends was going to post something she was thankful for every day in her status.

So I said to myself, "Self... this would be a great thing to do."

So I did.

Now I'm saying to myself, "Self it would be good for you to elaborate and maybe go a little deeper than just a status update each day."

So I am.

My FB Thankful status update for the day...

I'm thankful that I live in a country where my voice can be heard. Thankful that I can go out and vote today. I hope you'll get out there too.

I went and voted today. Without fear or worry. For this right...No...
For this, privilege I am very thankful.

Do you realize that there are billions.....BILLIONS of people in this world who cannot do what I (and hopefully you) just did today?

All I had to do was walk out to my car, hop in and drive about a block away. I could have walked but I was picking up my mom and taking her with me so she could cast her vote as well.

In my area there was a slight problem with the cards. Making it so we had to wait a slightly longer amount of time to cast my vote. I was there for maybe 10 maybe 15 minutes tops.
One of the poll managers was apologizing for the wait.

I am so thankful that's all I had to contend with.

I am so very thankful that I didn't have to walk miles and stand in line for hours maybe even days to vote.

I am incredibly thankful that I didn't have to risk my life in order for my voice to be heard.

Because there are people out there who do.

I got to vote today too! I was worried I wouldn't be able to vote since moving recently. I took my mom to vote and asked if there was anyway I could, and luckily for me, there is a way for those who are changing their addresses, names and other circumstances. Voting is usually a taken for granted thing for me, until I almost couldn't vote. I'll never look at it the same way again :)

I agree with your post. I love it. I wish we could all realize how lucky we are to vote and speak out. Lots to be grateful for!

Voting is something we take for granted. It's a shame.

I had a dear older neighbor lady catch me as she finished voting and I was waiting in line, tell me that she hasn't missed an election since she turned 21--you know, the age you had to be to vote back in the day. She was proud of herelf, but without any judgement of others. She was just thrilled that she has exercised this priviledge for that many years. Made me think: I have't missed once since I was 18...and I hope to say the same things when I am her age. Regardless, it was sure nice to see so many voters turn out...it is about time for that kind of activism. ANd I agree, it is something we all take for granted far too often.
