Inquiring Minds Want to Know

How do you feel about second hand/thrift stores? Garage Sales? Do you or would you shop either of these places? Or are you more of a Target or Mall stores type of person?

Do you think less of or judge people who do shop at second hand/thrift stores or garage sales?

When I was much younger, when it was time for back to school shopping, it was this thrift store we loved. And I was the queen of let's stop at that garage sale. Which I still don't mind stopping at. But for clothes now, since I am a germaphobe and bring my own sheets when we go to Florida, I am a Target/Mall girl. It just skeeves me out now, now that I worry if a UV blue light would pick up stains, etc (too much CSI)!!

But there is no way I judge or think less. Thrift stores were my life for a long time. Heck Sandy doesn't have germ issues, she gets great stuff from the Goodwill store for like 4 bucks. And I pay 55 for a shirt for a plus size upper body woman...because it needs to fit and be never used.OY!

Both, baby, both.

I love a good garage sale, if the pickin's are good. But, of course I love Target, too.

I love them all! I just love to shop!

Second hand shopping happens to be one of my favorite things to do. I just wash in hot and wear. There are very few things I own that aren't second hand.

I rarely go to second-hand shops, and I haven't garage sale-d much since I moved away from my partner in that activity--my mil--and that was 10 years ago. But I like the conservationist theory, and I love a good deal. It's just more of a crap-shoot, and I rarely have patience for that.

I'm a Target girl.

I enjoy a good garage sale or stopping at a second hand store but don't do it very often. You'll find me at the mall or Target or any other place I can spend money...

Sorry! That was me, accidentally signed in as my husband.

Anyway, I miss the D.I. and Savers. It isn't quite the same out here. Maybe I just don't know where to go. I still need to check out the biggest flea market in GA, which happens to be right by my house.

I absolutely love the feeling of getting a good deal, new or used. Most of my bargains these days are at the mall - the store I work in has some clearance that is $2.99 - $6.99. I also check craigslist every day, even though I don't need anything.

The only time I judge is when people don't bargain shop well. You don't have to dress badly or buy junk that isn't good quality. There are better deals out there!

I adore shopping in thrift stores. Love Savers and Thrift Town. The DI just isn't my favorite place to shop. My favorite town for thrift store shopping is Butte, Montana. Best stores ever!

I've taken up estate sale shopping. Better quality stuff than the old yard sales. But it has to be one run by professional estate sale peeps. Otherwise it's just a yard sale with a fancy title.

oh shanna, I have missed you! I have gotten so busy that I haven't had time to comment...but you have lured me out of the shadows with your post here.

You know I am a DIE HARD Yardsaler. I love the hunt of finding something great for just a few dollars.

DI? Well I will suffer DI in the winter because there are no yardsales. But, in the summer I never go!

Savers? I don't know why this is, I have heard you can get great deals there. But since I worked a short stint there after high school, I cant STAND the place. So I NEVER go.

p.s I cant wait to talk to you about the book!

I usually have an annual gargage sale so I really can't pass any judgement. And I'll sometimes look at what others have, but I am very selective......
Love me a Target store!!

I have no judgements towards people who do, but I RARELY shop at second hand stores, especially for clothes. And I haven't been to a garage sale in years!

I'm with Melissa, gotta love Target!

I am ok with both. If I can find a good deal I am all for it. I am a little more particular when I go to a second hand store because it needs to not look too hammered but I am up for all of them. Have a great week.

I LOVE the thrift stores! And yard Sales. And Walmart. But NOT the mall.

I just don't like the chaos of some stores. I can't stand digging for a bargain. I can't even get through a Ross or Tj Maxx
But more power to those who do!

Hahaha! I judge you if you DON'T shop secondhand.

I kid, I kid. A deal is a deal wherever you find it.

I love me a bargain so I don't really care. I'm good with either one!

I love old stuff and bargains! I'm always jealous to see the great things that other people find, and how they repurpose them.

I hate shopping period, have no judgements for those who love it, however they love it. The last time I went to a discount clothing place, spent 2 hours trying to find something for DD and spent the same amount as I woul dhave at Target.... ended up at Old Navy and found brand new skirts for $2... so having grown up doing the garage sales and thrift stores, actually having done that until the last two years, I am burned out and would rather save longer to buy something fresh. I am tired of hand me downs... 35+ years though might do that to ya LOL

I'm totally a garage sale/thrift store junkie - but only if they're clean. I hate going into a dirty, damp and stinky place to shop. But I have to admit that I'm a sucker for a good deal, so sometimes it's worth it to pull out the hand sanitizer after you cruise down the junk store isles.

I'm all about finding a good deal. But I am more likely to go to a garage sale then goodwill...not sure exactly why. But I do prefer the outlet mall for new clothes, but I have found some awesome finds at Wal-Mart & Target!!!
I don't judge people based on where they shop. I think it's smart to live within your budget and to recycle & reuse whatever you can. Save the polar bears :o)

Love them all! Sometimes love the second hand/thrift more! You know, they are like a treasure hunt!

I think it's a fabulous way to save money. I love it!

Hey, second hand stores can be a blast to go through. Might find some real treasures ---something unique and not what everyone else has. I like that!!!!

I love a garage sale and thrift store for stuff more than clothes--kitchen gadgets, planting pots, baskets, etc. I used to shop for clothes at Savers in college, but now my taste is too picky. But I will still pick up household items and random finds at a thrift store now and then. Garage sales? Seldom worth stopping for anymore.

I prefer to call them "junk sales". I hate when the weather gets nice and I see all the cars parked down the street w/the signs advertising them. I don't care to buy peoples crap. I have enough of my own. And would I have one? NO. I'll donate it to the DI and take the tax credit.

Now you can all judge me as being a snob.

I love thrift stores! I am always amazed at what I find when I go, and it's always different! Of course, I love Target, too! I live within 15 minutes of THREE Super Targets, so I'm a happy woman!

I am a Target girl. I just don't have the patience for garage sales. I know you can get good stuff but it is too much work for me ;)

I love a good deal and I passed that love on to my kids. None of them give a second thought to shopping at a thrift store, and they have their mother's talent for finding the good stuff!
