In the Principals Office

I did take Jen's advice and went down for a face to face with the principal and I'm so glad I did. She had not received my voice mail. I had left her a voice mail yesterday just saying that I had a concern about something that had happened I didn't state what it was.

It's a good thing I went this morning too because she was getting ready to head out on a field trip with the 6th graders.

She took this very seriously even before I informed her who the girl was that had done the kissing. Once I had given her the name she just kind of made a small groan that basically said "Oh no."

I told her pretty much exactly what I blogged about in my previous post. Except I had asked George again what had happened and found that this girl had covered his eyes. He wasn't just closing them...she covered them with her hands.

They know this girl well there and she did say that there are issues with her. I let her know what McKenna had told me about the suspension and what it was for. Up until I spoke to the principal it was just something that McKenna had heard (granted from one of the boys that she flashed) but she, the principal, confirmed that the flashing and suspension had occurred.

She told me that this little 5th grader basically acts like she 18 or even 30 and she's seen things. I don't know what. I feel really bad for this girl but I will not allow her to cause problems for my kids. Especially for George.

The principal told me she would take care of this today. She didn't say what would happen and I didn't ask. She did say that if the "attitude" kept up or if anything else happened to let her know immediately and they would step in again.

I hope that this girl can get some help one way or another so she can learn that her behavior is not appropriate.

Oh and we will be having "the talk" with George today. We haven't yet and we should have. Now we are.

It does sound like this girl has been exposed to things she shouldn't have been. She has attitude, but she could be acting out as a cry for help as well. It's good that you did this.

I was thinking the same thing as Christa. I hope that maybe they have her meet with a therapist and see if she was possibly sexuallly abused.

I'm thinking the same thing as the other two - that she's been abused. How sad.

Sorry your family has to deal with that. I think you handled it well. I hate when my child's innocense is ruined by others.

I know I'm a post late on this...but I think you did the right thing. A face to face was the right idea!

It is sad that she's been exposed to things she shouldn't have, but I still wouldn't want her exposing things to my child because of it. Hopefully the school can intervene and help her out. And at the very least stop it from happening again. Way to go Mama Bear!

I love what you said about even though.. you have to keep your kids safe, ITA!!!

and I am also thinking how grateful I am that out of anyone, she picked George b/c YOU did something about and I know a lot of parents probably wouldn't. So now there are a lot of people aware and maybe she can get some help :(

hope that made sense

You wanna write a script of "the talk" and send it to me? :) I'm sure I'll need to give it sooner than later and I'm not really looking forward to it. Good luck with that and the whole situation!

Something is very wrong in that little girl's life. Sorry you have to have the talk with yours. Yikes!

Good for you. I'm glad to hear that there are school officials who care and take steps when necessary.

Good luck with the talk. And dealing with all this. Seriously. ♥♥

Good for you to get in there and let her know what happened!

It's so sad when kids like this grow up too fast. To much info for an innocent brain to process. I'm glad the school is taking it seriously.

I hope she gets the help she needs. It could be something that happened at home - but it could not be. It could be something that happened at the hands of someone outside the family - as happened with one of my children.

My child never acted out in a sexual way at all, but my child did act out and it was so hard to watch and feel so helpless - even with therapy. Her parents *may* be as frustrated by the behavior as everyone else. Maybe not, but they sure could be. I feel very sorry for that little girl - especially if she doesn't get the intervention she needs...

I'm so impressed with your ability to see both sides of the situation. Of course you are absolutely right by protecting George first and foremost, but it shows a lot of empathy and compassion for you to worry about the girl as well. Good luck with the talk!

Oh no the talk and for something he did not want happening to him, poor kid!

I hope she leaves him alone for both their sakes.

You have done the right thing for both children. Protecting your son is number one, and since it points the attention where it needs to be addressed, it is also helping the other child. Good luck with the "talk"!
