Close call

Remember when I came this [] close to getting on this show??
Well I do believe I had another close call. This time I came fairly close to being on this show...

Oh yes. I had to have and intervention with myself and clean out my office.

Don't believe me? Behold I present you with Exhibit A, B and C....
I set to work with a large black plastic garbage bag and a determination to not end up on that show. It took me probably a good 3/4 of a day that bled over into the next day but I did stop to fix my family dinner....

Here is the end result....
The desk is paper free and the scrapbook and craft supplies are under control. I took the kids' school papers (these are the ones that I want to save) and put them into boxes that they will be able to take with them when they leave the house....if they want. Yes the rootbeer keg is still there but that's the only place for it and at least now it's not completely blocking the doorway.

I dusted and vacuumed. I sorted through the cd's , craft boards and craft supplies. It's not perfect but it's much better than it was and now I don't think my husband will be contacting A&E for a hoarder intervention.

Phew! That was a close one.

*footnote-
I am optimistic that I will no longer be using this office in a week or two. I'm hoping that I will get a new computer and will be out on my new computer desk in the downstairs living room. That new computer can't come soon enough because it took me a good HOUR to do this post!!!! This computer is so flipping slow. *sigh* Only a few more days. *crossing fingers*

It looks stunning! Good for you! Also, is that an ax in the rootbeer keg?

No it's a stirring stick that looks suspiciously like an axe handle. :)

You have inspired me, onward I will go to face my own hoarder room, funny its the same as yours with computer/sewing/crafts/holiday decoration/"quick put it in the computer room so our visitors wont see our junk" room. Then I never put it away. I may even find a suprize. Who knows

I was thinking I need to take pics of the basement before and after too! I am just afraid I would be too embarrasssed to post them. It is WAY worse than this room!!! But WTG, you did a fab job! I bet it feels good to have that done!

Okay, I'm now getting off my lazy behind and cleaning my apartment. Thanks for the motivation!

You have inspired me to clean out our storage room, which I will never take pictures of.

Ever.

It looks great! Even the before pictures don't seem hoard-worthy. Our laundry room/office/"craft room"/storage room looks worse. Way worse. *sigh*

Having caught a portion of the episode I *think* they would have had you on the first show, I think you dodged a bullet. They sure beat up the free-range lady (then again, I didn't see the whole segment so maybe it was more balanced).

Good job on the big cleanup! I hate doing those power cleans but sure love it when they're done. We've watched "Horders" a few times and man, it sure motivates. One episode we watched the woman ended up having 2 dead cats in her house and she was completely unaware of it. Now whenever a room starts looking icky, I'll say "It's feeling a little Augustine around here!" and we have to clean it up. Unfortunately for my spouse, my tolerance level for clutter is higher than his.

Good for you! Great job. It is often the big jobs like that that are the hardest as were do you begin?? You did great!

Unfortunately, I've made cleaning progress like that before but it always seems to go back to the way it was a week or two later...

Odd.

Um, now I'm craving root beer, too.

And I think that hoarding may run in the family. Check out my dad. He'd never be on the show, though, because he's somehow the most organized hoarder on the planet. All that stuff is so neat and tucked away, but it may be impossible to remember (much less find) whatever it was he kept "just in case" you needed it.

Pretty sure he passed that on to me. I have a hard time getting rid of stuff when it's so much easier to "organize it" and fill all our space with it.

Wow, so awesome. I'm jealous. I want to clean the crap out of my house, but how do I do it when most of it is my husbands??

Ew, I hate Dr. Phil so I'm glad you didn't go on that show.

And I don't think you can qualify for "Hoarders" unless you have at least one dead animal buried in your stuff.

Unless you found a dead cat under the piles, you are nowhere near what those people are!

Just found your blog and I'm loving it! Great job with the office--it looks awesome! :)

Your amazing and deserve a good round of applause for tackling such a project. It looks great! Way to keep your self from ending up on T.V.!

Woa! You did some great work- it looks awesome!

My son gets mad when I watch hoarders...he says it is too depressing, but it motivates me to toss stuff!!!!

I hate paper! It just seems to grow and multiply and replenish all by itself, doesn't it? So annoying---but your room looks lovely now----ugh, you should see MY desk....

Good for you for curing yourself! It looks great. And I bet it feels great to be able to make sense of it all and find stuff again.
