Something is wrong with the bread

As the kids woke up this morning I was in laying on the couch. Mckenna took the last of the yogurt so Jilli, seeing we had some jam in the fridge asked if she could have a pbj for breakfast. I acquiesced.

As Jilli was getting things ready to make herself breakfast I hear her worried voice from the kitchen, "Mom, something is wrong with the bread." I start to laugh.

Last night I had gone to an enrichment meeting on how to make bread in one hour, from start to out of the oven. (It was very cool! I will do a post about this later. It's where I had the braided Nutella dessert) My mom had made some of her homemade bread to take down there. (Yes I live in the same ward as my mom.) Her loaf of bread was still untouched so she let me take it home with a little bit of jam that she had also brought to the meeting.

As most people know homemade bread is not sliced. Since we rarely have homemade bread in this house, it was something that Jillian did not.

Thus, what was wrong with the bread.

I explained to her that was homemade bread from Grandma and told her where the sliced bread was. Her world was back to normal and she contentedly began to make her pbj from bread that had nothing wrong with it.

That's funny. In my house, if something is wrong with the bread, it means it's covered in mold. So good for you--homemade bread. YUM!

I've been baking my own bread since January. It took a little while for my kids to get used to the idea, but they're fine with it now. I started because I wanted to have some idea of how to use food storage wheat and also because homemade wheat bread is my husband's all time favorite. I decided to finally be a nice wife and make him something he loves. It sounds like I use the same recipe that you're talking about. I have it posted on my cooking blog. I'm really interested to see what you are using. Get it posted soon. ☺ Yes, that is an order.

Lol! That is too funny. The few times my kids have had homemade bread they never seem to like it very much.. crazy kids.

That is so funny! Whenever I make bread it doesn't last a day. Which is good and bad. I don't think I've actually used acquiesced in a sentence before. Look at you...setting the standard high.

What!?! It doesn't come out of the oven slices? How are you supposed to eat it, if its not sliced?

Too funny! It's the other way around at our house. The kids don't even ask if we have bread, they just ask, "mom have you made bread yet?" I'm just glad they'll eat it. I hated homemade bread as a kid.

I love it! But slicing my own bread would really interfere with my resolution to exercise less.

Hahaha, that's funny!
My mom makes homemade bread, but it's more like dinner bread than actual loaves.
Homemade bread actually sounds really yummy...

Love it! Thats way funny.
My mom didnt start baking her own bread until all the kids were out of the house. Now she gives us bread all the time cause she cooks it so much and it's just her and my dad. So even though she encourages me to make it I never need to cause she gives me so much. :)

I teach the sunbeams and last weeks lesson was on taste and smell. I made banana bread to take for the kids to taste and smell. You'd think I'd had brought spinach or brussell sprouts. It shocks me! Dang kids don't know what they are missing out on!

That's hilarious. I make our bread, but it takes way more than an hour. I'm intrigued....

Since I am a homemaking whimp, none of the bread around here is "broken." Great story.

Yeah---when my son first got his breadmaker---about 10 years ago---the kids couldn't cut a straight piece of bread if their life depended on it!

Too funny. At our house it's the exact opposite. They find the pre-sliced Wonder Bread at grandma and grandpa's house to be an exceptional treat.
I think I might use the same recipe you are talking about and I can't wait to see you post it!

I have made that bread a few times since enrichment and it worked great!!! I made a braid with eggs and sausage inside and it was really good.

LOL!! I'm sure my kids would think the same thing was "wrong" with the bread.

Oh, and we spent the first 12 years of our marriage in the same ward as my husbands parents and then 2 years in the same ward as my parents. Now we don't have any immediate family in our ward, but my husbands 2nd cousin and her family are in our ward. I guess we just can't escape family. :-)
