Thankful Thursday

I haven't done this in a while and I really need to...
  • I'm Thankful that when the Red Wagon came back with the diagnosis "leaking from the head gasket" (and it also needs new tires and some work done on the blinkers) that we still had the Durango sitting in the driveway.
  • For neighbors with large gas cans who are willing to share.
  • That I have an awesome brother-in-law and nephew who took that Durango that had been sitting silent for almost two years, and cleaned it all up (including a mouse nest in the air filter) and got it running again.
  • I'm Thankful that when said Durango decided to die on me just after I got it all licensed and registered, that it died at a stop light close to home and not on the freeway where I had been driving.
  • For good Samaritans who helped me push that monster off of the highway and into a nearby parking lot.
  • And again I'm thankful for the AWESOME brother-in-law who came to my rescue, called me a tow truck and had a friend look at it.
  • I'm thankful that it wasn't the fuel filter or the fuel pump, both of which are in the gas tank, but only a loose wire and that said brother-in-law said that there was no charge.
  • I'm thankful for a seven year old who has decided against going into the WWE and wants to follow her dream of being a Rock Star instead.
  • I'm thankful that my 15 year old is willing to come and talk to me about his concerns.
  • For Good Books.
  • For a niece who will go walking with me and listen to me natter on and on.
  • And last but definitely not least, I'm thankful for a husband who doesn't leave giving "the talk" to our kids up to me alone and is willing to make it a joint effort. After all we made the kid together.

What are you thankful for today??

Another Awesome video

Katy Perry and Timbaland hook up for If we ever meet again. I am digging this song and I love how it looks like they had so much fun making the video.

And since it's SNOWING and cold again here and I don't want to blog about that you get this awesome video.

You're welcome.

Tuesday Around the World "What helps me relax"

A good book always helps me relax.
Although the fact that I have at least ten or so
that I need to read before I have to get them
back to the library stresses me out a bit.

Is this counterproductive??

(To see what others around the world do to relax

Sixth

Not the Sixth Sense but the Sixth picture....

the sixth picture EVER to be posted on this blog? Holy cow.

Wow this took me back. It came from this post. It was taken during a trip I took by myself up to Salt Lake for a couple of days. I was on the verge of burnout as a wife, mom, daughter, sister and friend. My dear husband gave me the gift of a couple of days off by myself. It was just what I needed.

Oh and if you go to that post and read the comments back then I went by Slacker Mom. That wasn't very positive so I decided to with Just SO. Since my initials are S and O and this blog is about me well it worked out pretty well. Any way this was a fun little tag! Thanks Bradie!

And now...Tag!!! YOU'RE IT! (If you want to be it.) It was an interesting walk down memory lane. Give it a shot.

I love the sun...it doesn't necessarily love me back.

I know that this time of year brings that beautiful, golden ball of warmth closer to our hemisphere. Where it begins to show it's face more and more. And everyone loves it.

Me included.

Unfortunately my skin has some issues with this sudden change from a Vitamin D deficient life to being pumped full of those beautiful rays of warmth and UV.

I do wear sunscreen because I burn easily but I usually forget to put it on the first few times out. And even when I do my skin doesn't necessarily burn.

It erupts.

Yes it erupts into an ugly, itchy, skin rash that is caused by all of this extra exposure to the sun. Usually I only get it on the back of my hands. This year my neck seems to have joined in this rash party and it isn't pretty.

It isn't pretty at all.

Love and Service

I'm in the middle of reading a book called Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. I had just picked it up to read some more of it this night and not two minutes into reading came across this passage, fell in love and had to share.

"You see rank and distinction; you try to order the world so that everything has a place either above you or beneath you. To a Seon, there is no above or beneath, there are only those we love. And we serve those we love."
(italics added by me)

Seriously? I love that.
As a person whose Love Language is Acts of Service? There could be no truer statement.
I think I'll print it out and hang it somewhere I can see it.

Now...back to the book

Glamour Shots Gone Wild

So Kristina is having a blog carnival where you post your "Glamour Shots" that you had done.

Sadly I have no actual Glamour Shots BUT I do have an awesome session at Olan Mills when I turned Sweet Sixteen.

There may or may not have been a wicker chair involved....Okay there was, but I don't have that picture at my finger tips.

Here is the one that I do have.
See the awesome peach dress?
I was obsessed with Peach. I had a peach bedroom with a peach comforter and frilly peach curtains.

Honestly.

Oh and in case you were wondering? Yes I am rocking an awesome sailor type collar on that dress and it was a drop waist with a pleated bottom.

And could my hair be any more FRIED??? I don't think so. Perms are of the devil.

There you have it.

Now.

It's YOUR TURN!!!
Dig out your most awesome "Glamour Shot" evah.
Head on over to Kristina's blog and
join us all in the beauty that is
the Glamour Shots Blog Carnival!!

DO IT!

Bring on the rain

I'm joining in on Communal Global's, Tuesdays Around the world. Today's challenge was for pictures on a walk or at the park. It's cold and rainy/snowy outside so my walk consisted of going around the yard and taking pictures of the beauty left behind after the rains...

Easter Duds at the Temple....(wait that doesn't sound right)

Our family went to the Mt. Timpanogos Temple to walk around the grounds and feel the peace there. Jillian wanted to go inside. I don't blame her.

It was also a good chance for me to get shots of everyone in their Easter duds.

Can you believe it? This guy will be taking Drivers Ed in the Fall and in three years be looking at serving a mission. *shaking head* THREE YEARS PEOPLE!!!!
Thankfully we have four years until this one starts dating. Wait....FOUR YEARS!!!
George wanted to do a "Thinker" pose. He's a crackup.
And it's pretty much impossible to get her to do anything that you ask her to....
Again...notice George's eyebrow in the lower left shot. Gotta love my guys.
As I put this together I realized I didn't take any of Mckenna and Jillian together. Oops.
And we took a family shot. I'm trying to do the six people twelve times like one of my favorite photographers Tara Whitney. Except unless I double up on a couple of months it will end up being six people nine times....

Inferior

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent
-- Elanor Roosevelt

This is something that I struggle with. Maybe not everyday but sometimes it feels that way.

What amount truth do you find in the above quote?
